ALGIERS-Algerian-Chinese negotiations have been launched to establish an Algerian-Chinese consortium in charge of exploitation of the mining deposit of Gara Djebilet (Tindouf), Minister of Industry and Mines Abdesselam Bouchouareb told APS.
“We are currently discussing with Chinese partners to establish a consortium that includes, besides the Algerian site, metallurgic technologist and a Chinese specialist in rail transport to launch the exploitation of Gara Djebilet deposit,” the minister said after a meeting Sunday in Algiers with CEO of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Yuan Li, with whom negotiations are underway.
According to Bouchoureb, it is the first time the Gara Djebilet project is “genuinely” discussed because after the economic feasibility and technical studies of this mining site, the ministry of Industry and Mines prepares the launch of a pilot stage for the beginning of the exploitation.
“After the study phase, which allowed us to find the most suitable method to reduce phosphorous concentration, we are launching the pilot phase to be implemented,” he added.
For his part, Transport Minister Boudjemaa Talaï, after his meeting with Li, told APS that the txo parties discussed the project for the construction of a railway line linking Gara Djebilet to Abadla (Bechar).
