APS : SUNDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2017
ALGIERS-The 22nd edition of the International Book Fair (SILA), which will take place on 25 Octobre-5 November), has chosen South Africa as guest of honour. Many African publishing houses,
authors and writers will take part in this edition, SILA Commissioner Hamidou Messaoudi announced said Sunday in Algiers.
“Africa’s participation, which was remarkable at +Esprit PANAF+, includes conferences and meetings hosted by guests and held during this edition, which comprises 520 publishing houses,” said Messaoudi at Echaab daily forum.
Messaoudi spoke of the exclusion of 25 publishing houses that participated in 2016 edition for violating the rules of SILA by exhibiting books on the ground including the holy Quran, and for delay in the transport of unsold books.
As regards the activities of this new edition, in which will participate China and 50 other countries, Messaoudi announced a rich cultural programme including 18 papers, conferences, awards and activities for children at “Ahaggar” stand, where extracurricular books and children’s books will be exhibited in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The same official also spoke of an intense activity of High Commission for Amazigh, which intends to hold cultural activities on 3-5 November on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the death of Mouloud Mammeri, recalling that the official closing of the fair, initially scheduled for 4 November, was postponed to 5 November.
