ALGIERS-President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday received Congo’s Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso who handed him an invitation from President Denis Sassou-Nguesso to partake in the African Union (AU) High-Level Committee on Libya. “President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday received the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Abroad, Jean-Claude Gakosso, special envoy of the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso in his capacity as chairman of the High Level Committee on Libya,” said a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.
“The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Sunday in Algiers the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Abroad Jean-Claude Gakosso, special envoy of the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso in his capacity as chairman of the High Level Committee on Libya,” said a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.
During the hearing, “the President of the Republic received an invitation from his Congolese counterpart to attend the meeting of the high level Committee on Libya, scheduled for 12 March in Oyo (Congo), with a view to reviving the peace process in this brotherly country in accordance with the decisions of the Berlin Conference on Libya and the relevant resolutions of the African Union (AU),” the statement said.
“President Tebboune welcomed this step, based on his deep conviction that the solution to the Libya crisis must be political and through negotiations, far from foreign military intervention,” said the source.
