ALGIERS-While visiting African Union (AU) institutions in Algiers, Chairman of AU Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat on Monday emphasized Algeria’s “unquestionable pan-African commitment.”
“I thank Algeria which currently hosts a training of AFRIPOL national heads of liaison office. This event reflects the country’s unquestionable pan-African commitment,” said Faki on the sidelines of his visit to the headquarters of the African Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL).
Faki thanked the Algerian government which provided the African focal points with a complete kit using ICTs, stressing that focal points will benefit from this after the training under cooperation and coordination between African police.
“The last attack against the capital of Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou) reminds us once against that Africa is facing a major security challenge,” recalled Faki, who underlined the “vital role of cooperation and coordination between African police.”
In this connection, he said that Afripol training in Algiers “genuinely reflects this cooperation” because African police are interconnected to exchange information in real time through the kit that will be granted to them following this training.”
For his part, Director General of the National Police (DGSN) and Afripol President Major General Abdelghani Hamel underlined Afripol’s role and “added value to the field of security worldwide.”
The AU official visited the African Energy Commission (AFREC) in Hydra where he received explanations on this AU body in charge of coordinating the protection, conservation, development, exploitation and integration of energy resources throughout the continent.
The last AU institution Faki visited was the African Centre for Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT), where he held a working session with executives.
