ALGIERS- The delegation of the European Union (EU) in Algiers congratulated, Monday, Algeria for the destruction of the remaining stock of anti-personnel mines, describing the country as an “example to follow.”
“EU’s delegation (in Algeria) congratulates Algeria for the destruction of the remaining stock of anti-personnel mines detained by the People’s National Army,” it said in a statement.
The Ministry of the National Defence destroyed Monday a remaining stock of anti-personnel mines detained by the People’s National Army in accordance with Algeria’s international commitments resulting from the implementation of the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of the Use, Production and Transfer of anti-personal mines and their destruction, concluded in Oslo on 18 September 1997 and ratified by the country in 17 December 2000.
