ALGIERS- Algeria welcomed Saturday the “positive development recorded recently in the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea,” the spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdelaziz Benali Cherif has said.
Algeria “welcomes, with satisfaction, the decision of Ethiopia’s high authorities to fully implement Algiers Agreement, signed on 12 December 2000, as well as the findings of the Border Demarcation Commission,” the ministry’s spokesman said.
It “also praises the positive reaction of Eritrea which shows willingness to resume dialogue with neighboring Ethiopia.”
Such “encouraging” developments, which “deserve international community’s support” are likely to contribute to the definitive settlement of the border conflict between the two countries,” the Foreign Affairs ministry’s spokesperson noted.
In its capacity as a mediator, Algeria “welcomes the new willingness shown by Ethiopia and Eritrea and urges them to resolutely pursue those appeasement efforts,” he said.
“Algeria reiterates its willingness to assist the two sister countries in the completion of the peace process.”
