ALGIERS-The African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO RATS) sealed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) on counterterrorism Tuesday in Algiers.
The MoC signing is the fruit of two-year discussions and negotiations between the ACSRT Director, Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq and his Sco Rats counterpart, Yevgeniy Sergeyevich Sysoyev.
The document will allow the two bodies to cooperate and exchange counterterrorism experiences and good practices.
“The ACSRT is an important body of the African Union Commission and we need to cooperate with other institutions to search adapted and adequate ways for a better cooperation,” stated Gbevlo-Lartey ahead of the MoC signing at the ACSRT headquarters in Algiers.
“It was a long discussion process. In 2016, we invited Sco Rats which partook in our annual meeting of focal points. Today, we are very satisfied and glad to sign the MoC with Sco Rats,” said Gbevlo-Lartey.
The new ACSRT-Sco Rtas cooperation framework will also lead to a “work plan and the identification of practical steps on which we will cooperate through sharing experiences and information on terrorism in the two regions of Africa and Asia,” he continued.
For his part, Sco Rats Dirtector, Russian Yevgeniy Sergeyevich Sysoyev welcomed the singing of this document and paid tribute to ACSRT’s efforts to reach an agreement.
“It is an honour for us (Sco Rats) to work with the African Centre for Research against Terrorism (ACSRT). We can now exchange expertise and best practices between the two organisations in terms of counterterrorism,” said Sysoyev.
Sergeyevich Sysoyeve said that the meeting brought together the partners of the two organisations and discussed anti-terrorist cooperation, working methods to be adopted as well as mechanisms to deal with the terrorist threat.
