Consular representations called on to raise awareness of Algerian nationals on importance of legislatives

PARIS (France)- The consular representations were called on Friday, during the coordination meeting of general consuls and consuls in France and Europe being held in Paris, to raise awareness of Algerian nationals about the importance of the legislative elections scheduled for 4 May.
“Consular representations should make our national aware about the importance of this electoral date in the strengthening of the democracy’s institutions and the Rule of Law,” said a communiqué crowning the meeting that started Thursday in Paris at the headquarters of the embassy of Algeria in France.
The meeting, which started Thursday, was chaired by the Secretary General of the ministry of Foreign Affairs Hassane Rabehi with the participation of the Secretary General of the ministry of Interior and Local Authorities El Hocine Mazouz as well as high officials of both ministerial departments.
For the preparation of the legislative elections, which were at the centre of discussions between the heads of the consular missions, the secretary generals of both ministries insisted on the need to gather all the conditions to ensure the smooth running of the elections, in conformity with the instructions of the State’s top authorities,” said the communiqué.
“This poll comes after the 2016 revision of the Constitution which, for the first time, institutionalized the High Independent Authority for Election Monitoring, which reinforced and strengthened the guarantees of regularity and transparency of the ballot thus allowing a larger participation of our nationals in the free choice of their representatives within the legislative body,” explained the communiqué.
Furthermore, the coordination meeting allowed participants to draw up an “exhaustive” evaluation of the consular management of the national community established abroad in a context “marked by the completion of the biometric process of the organization of the legislative elections,” underlined the statement.
The meeting allowed noting the “positive” progress of the consular management in 2016 and during the current year, in conformity with the guidelines of the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika in terms of “defending and protecting” the national community abroad.
