CAIRO- The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel partook Thursday, in Cairo, in the ministerial meeting of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee held in prelude to the extraordinary session
of the Arab League Council on Al Quds, in the context of the American decision to recognize this city as the capital of Israel.
This meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministers of fifteen State members of the Committee as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu El Ghait.
The discussions engaged by the ministers focused on “the evaluation of the situation in Palestine, in the lights of the decisions taken by the Arab League Council and the ensuing mobilization in favor of the Palestinian cause, particularly in regards to the preservation of the status of Al Quds Echarif.”
The “potential implications” of the decision of the U.S administration on the region’s peace and stability process were also broached.
While recalling Algeria’s position in support of the Palestinian cause, Messahel underlined “the need for a reaction that is up to the challenges of the latest developments of the situation in Palestine on the peace process as a whole.”
