RELIZANE –Minister of Industry and Mines Abdeslam Bouchouareb on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Africa’s largest textile complex, located at the industrial park of Sidi el Khettab (Relizane, 300 km west of Algiers). This project is part of Algerian-Turkish partnership.
The Minister said that this mega-complex is an achievement in the field of textile industry, not only for Relizane but for the whole country. “Relizane became an industrial center of excellence,” he added.
Bouchouareb has also said that once operational, this complex will produce variety of fabrics and 60% of production will be exported.
This project is part of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika economic programme intended to reduce imports, diversify the national economy and contribute to the training local workforce.
This Africa’s largest project has been launched last year as part of a deal according to the rule 49/51 between the Algerian Industrial Clothing Group and Turkish Group “Taipa” specialized in weaving.
The mega-complex will be constructed in two phases by the Turkish company “Astay”. The first, spanning from 2015 to 2018, focuses on the building of eight units of weaving and dressmaking g and a business center.
A training school in weaving and sewing which can receive 400 trainees is also planned.
The second phase, which will be launched before the end of the first one from 2016 to 2020 will include the building of 10 other production plants for ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and synthetic fibers.
This DZD58 billion complex which completion time is set at 36 months will generate 25,000 jobs.
