ORAN- The Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) markets its services to North African and Sahel countries, said Thursday, in Oran, ASAL’s Director General Azzedine Oussedik.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the inking, in the satellite development centre, of a cooperation agreement between ASAL and the general Directorate for Preservation of Ecological Legacy and Forest Heritage, Oussedik said that the agency markets its services to the North African and Sahel countries, notably photos of natural disasters taken by satellites.
“We have a regional support office at the headquarters of the General Directorate of the Civil Protection of Algiers whose main mission is to provide the countries of North Africa and of Sahel, in case of natural disasters (floods, forest fires, locust invasions, desertification…), with photos taken by satellites,” he said.
At every natural disaster, the photos taken by satellites are analyzed and supplied to the concerned countries in accordance with the agreement signed with the United Nations (UN), he said.
In terms of marketing, the Algerian Space Agency sells photos taken by satellites to the countries of the Sahel and other countries of the world, as well as studies and cards, similar to what is with the Sahel Observatory, a global organization which asked for studies on Mauritania and Chad, he said.
