ALGIERS-The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab received Wednesday in Algiers Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Donmez, with whom he discussed ways to boost the partnership and bilateral
cooperation in the fields of energy and mining.
Arkab told the press after the meeting that he discussed with his Turkish counterpart the “excellent” relations of cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the field of energy and mining and the prospects for their enhancement.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the main achievements since the holding of the 11th Algeria-Turkey Joint Commission, chaired by Arkab and Donmez, and the Algeria-Turkey Business Forum dedicated to energy in 2021 in Algiers, said the minister.
The “strong” relations between Sonatrach and the Turkish company Botas and ways to boost them, especially in the field of gas marketing, petrochemicals, offshore exploration, and training, were also discussed, said Arkab.
He highlighted the opportunities for investment and partnership with Turkish companies in the energy sector in Algeria, under the new law on hydrocarbons and in Africa.
The meeting was an opportunity to review the aspects of cooperation and investment opportunities offered by the mining sector in Algeria, especially in the field of geological research, exploration, exploitation, and production of mineral materials in Algeria.
The Algeria Geological Survey Agency (ASGA) will meet on Thursday with the Turkish Agency for the Development of Mines to discuss the possibility of creating an Algerian-Turkish company in the field of mining development, said Arkab.
For his part, the Turkish minister emphasized the highly developed business relations between the two countries, providing for the continued promotion of trade between the two countries which will reach this year US$5 billion.
He recalled the goal set by the Algerian and Turkish presidents to develop trade between the two countries to reach US$10 billion, which requires more efforts from the private sector in both countries.
Accompanied by a large delegation, Donmez is visiting Algeria to participate in the work of “Algeria Investment Conference” (AIC).
During this visit, the Turkish delegation will meet with companies in the sector to discuss enhancing cooperation in areas of common interest.
