ALGIERS-Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad, Kalla Ankourao said Tuesday in Algiers that he “is is fully satisfied”
with his talks with his Algerian counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel, and welcomed “a convergence of views” on all issues.
“We are fully satisfied with these talks,” Ankourao told the press after his meeting with the Algerian top diplomat.
According to Ankourao, the meeting was an opportunity to “assess bilateral relations between Algeria and Niger. These longstanding relations are not marked by any grey areas” and they are increasingly strengthened in the interest of both countries,” said the FM.
The same official underlined the need to broaden cooperation areas and advocated the enhancement of trade exchanges that “contribute to the development of regions and borders.”
The FM underlined the importance of new economic cooperation prospects and welcomed the upcoming the completion of the trans-Saharan road linking Algiers to Lagos (Nigeria) via Niamey.
Ankourao’s official visit to Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel, was an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, notably the challenge faced by the region, notably security cooperation, counterterrorism and illegal migration.
“We witnessed a convergence of views on the topics we discussed. Algeria and Niger have common counterterrorism approaches and they are committed to this matter, he continued.
Ankourao also recalled that Algeria and Niger regularly partake in the meetings of Libya’s neighbours, the Sahel countries and the African Union (AU) to exchange views on all problems facing the Sahel-Saharan region, mainly security issues.
Further meetings between the two countries could be scheduled in the near future and consultations will continue to set the date for the second session of the High Joint Committee that will chaired by both countries’ Premiers, said Ankourao.
