ALGIERS- Algeria’s efforts in the promotion of women’s rights have been stressed Thursday, in Algiers, by the representatives of the Council of Europe, in line with the legal provisions taken in this respect.
“We are in the right place, in Algiers, as we can learn much from Algeria’s great experience and its good practices in terms of women’s rights,” the executive director of the North-South Centre at the Council of Europe, José Rui Velez Caroço, said in an opening address at the second regional workshop on promoting the role of women.
Entitled “Enforcement of Laws relating to Women’s Rights: Sharing of Good Practices,” the meeting is co-organized by the ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Europe’s North-South Centre and the Portuguese Government, in the presence of the minister of National Solidarity, Women’s Affairs and Family, Ghania Eddalia.
Noting that it was the first meeting of its kind with Algeria, since it has become a member of the North-South Centre in June 2017, the speaker stressed the importance of the workshop.
The issue of women’s rights “is vital for the development of our societies.”
