Algerian, Romanian audit offices sign memorandum of cooperation

ALGIERS- A memorandum of cooperation has been signed, Monday in Algiers, by the Algerian and Romanian audit offices for the strengthening of public spending control.
This memorandum, the first of its kind between the two countries, was inked by the head of Algerian Audit Office Abdelkader Belmarouf and his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Vacaroiu.
The agreement provides for the exchange of experience and audit tools and methodologies, as well as training of Algerian magistrates by the Romanian audit office, explained Belmarouf at the end of the signing ceremony.
For his part, Vacaroiu underlined the positive results of cooperation between his country’s audit office and other countries’ in the field.
In this regard, he said that several working meetings would be held within the framework of the memorandum signed today with Algeria, adding that the cooperation programme will last for three years.
Belmarouf and Vacaroiu emphasized the role of an audit office in the democratic life of a country, as an independent control institution.
“The audit office is the basis of democracy. It plays a key role in the promotion of transparency and the control of public funds,” said Belmarouf.
In this regard, he recalled that several cooperation agreement have been finalized with France and Portugal, while that with the Netherlands is under examination.
