ALGIERS- Algerian Jamal Mimouni was appointed President of the African Astronomical Society (AFAS) relaunched after the “Astronomy in Africa Business” meeting, held on 25-26 March 2019,

The Cape Town meeting was marked by the participation of about 80 delegates from different countries, including astronomers and stakeholders from government and research institutions, added Sirius.

Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mozambique, Morocco and Egypt are among the countries having astronomical potential in addition to South Africa and Algeria, said the Algerian association.
