ALGIERS- The chairman of the Higher Islamic Council, Bouabdallah Ghlamallah, and the Iranian minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Reza Salhi Amiri,
agreed Tuesday in Algiers to held meetings between the ulema (religious scholars) of the two countries to consider ways and methods to face “takfiri and fanatic groups.”
The two sides agreed to organize meetings between the religious scholars of the two countries to discuss a “way out of the crisis facing the Muslim world,” Ghlamallah told reporters at the end of an audience granted to the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, at the council’s headquarters.
The Iranian official, for his part, said he handed over an “official invitation” to Ghlamallah to pay a visit to Iran, leading an Algerian ulema delegation.
Amiri underlined that the goal of the Ulema meeting is to “face takfiri and fanatic groups.”
“Cultural exchanges between two countries with an age-old heritage, like Algeria and Iran, will have a definite impact on the Muslim world’s fight against terrorism,” the Iranian official said.
“The West does not help us to get out of the crisis and, as a result, it is important for the Muslim countries to resolve the crisis by themselves.”
