ALGIERS-Trade Minister Bakhti Belaib and his Tunisian counterpart Mohsen Hassan agreed Monday in Algiers to establish a common market in order to promote the two countries’ products abroad, mainly in the African market, as part of economic partnerships.
Both parties will work for strengthening their trade and economic relations, which do not reflect the level of political ties (between the two countries), through the establishment of partnerships to enter the African market, stressed Belaib at the works of the 4th Algerian-Tunisian committee in charge of monitoring trade exchange.
Algeria gets down boosting the creation of a free-trade area in Africa in order to reinforce cooperation with Tunisia and promote both countries’ products, he added.
After highlighting deep political ties and the development of security and counterterrorism coordination between Algeria and Tunisia, the Tunisian official deplored the fact that economic relations are not that strong.
“We work for a genuine partnership with Algeria to develop mutual investments and enter foreign markets, mainly Africa,” he affirmed.
For Hassan, strengthening cooperation is reliant on coordination in diplomatic economy to join major African economic groups and draw views closer between the two countries.
During the works that wrapped up with signing of minutes of the meeting, both ministers broached obstacles hindering the development of trade exchange between the two countries, affirming that they agreed to tackle them so as to establish a real partnership in the region.
