Algeria, Togo ink MoU to promote bilateral relations

ALGIERS-Algeria and Togo signed on Thursday, in Algiers, a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations to give fresh impetus to bilateral relations frozen for nearly 40 years,
said Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of his talks with his Togolese counterpart, Robert Dussey, Boukadoum said that this meeting is an opportunity to “address all issues of common interest,” noting that “the last visit between the twocountries was in 1980.”
The resumption of relations with Togo is “of great importance,” said the Foreign Minister.
This memorandum includes several areas that could be developed, added Boukadoum, noting that the discussions enabled “exchange of views and positions on several regional and international issues.”
During this meeting, the two parties also exchanged views on the he North West Africa region, the Minister added.
For his part, the Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs said that hil visit to Algeria, at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart, was part of the process of strengthening relations between Algeria and Togo.
“Algeria occupies a dominant position in the African continent where it has always played an important role,” added Togo’s Foreign Minister, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, through the memorandum of understanding and a roadmap.
