EL OUED-Energy Minister Mustapha Guitouni announced Wednesday in El Oued that his department is about to launch an operation to export electricity to Tunisia.
Speaking on the sidelines of a working visit to this province, the minister said that Algeria is electricity self-sufficient and will be exporting a quantity to Tunisia, notably border areas.
Inspecting the project to build a 220/400 KVA transformer station in the locality of El Fouilia (commune of Reguiba), Guitouni said that the energy programmes launched since 1999 ensured the production of 1,220 MVA, of which only one third (496 MVA) is used by the population of the province.
Increasing the capacities of energy, electricity and gas facilities has contributed to opening investment prospects, notably in industry and agriculture, as a supplementary and alternative resource for the national economy, Guitouni said in his inspection visits to the province’s electricity facilities.
These energy projects, which have been implemented with a view to ensuring the continuity of supply to citizens, are part of the forward-looking and strategic vision of the President of the Republic since 1999, especially in southern regions, stated Guitouni.
