ALGIERS- Algerian private group Amimer Energie signed Monday in Algiers with the Malian company Energie du Mali (EDM) agreements on building two power plants, worth US$70 million, in Mali.
The agreements provide for the engineering and building of two diesel power plants, with a production capacity of 20MW each, in the Malian locality of Kati and Dar Salam.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Energy Noureddine Boutarfa and Malian Minister of Energy and Water Malick Alhousseini, and managers of the two contracting parties.
The General Manager of Amimer Energie, Amar Boukheddami, committed to ensuring the achievement of the two projects as soon as possible.
For his part, the General Manager of EDM, Dramane Coulibaly, said that the two power plants would help meet some of energy demands in the localities of Kati and Dar Salam.
Boutarfa underlined that “we, Africans, have the capacity to launch many joint projects,” recalling that “it is in line with the guidelines of President of the Republic to further develop relations with African countries, especially Mali.”
The Malian minister said that those agreements were also in line with energy policy of the government of his country, which has recently adopted a plan of action aiming at increasing access to energy, through a programme for the building of solar and hybrid power plants.
“My ministerial department will spare no effort to support the project and assist all those resulting from cooperation between our two countries,” he added.
