ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano stressed the “need” for “regular” consultation between the two countries in a view to eradicate migration scourge,
which “puts the lives of thousands in danger,” said Saturday the Foreign Ministry in a communiqué.
Minister of Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and his Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano held discussions on the sidelines of the 3rd International Conference of Rome “Mediterranean dialogues”, taking place in Rome from 30 November to 2 December.
They discussed the situation in the Mediterranean region, marked by common challenges notably migration, added the FM communiqué.
The talks allowed the two ministers to examine the “state and the prospects of cooperation between Algeria and Italy, reiterating the two countries’ commitment to reinforce it further.
Besides, the two ministers discussed the situation in Libya and stressed the “need to accompany the UN efforts to speed up the exit from the crisis.”
Regarding the situation in the Sahel region, the two foreign ministers underlined the “emergency to find a solution to the Libyan crisis, which will certainly have a positive impact on the Sahel-Saharan zone.”
Messahel and Alfano also discussed “other international questions of common interest, namely the fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” added the source.
Italy is seeking to “benefit from the Algerian experience in terms of policies of deradicalization,” said the communiqué.
