Algeria hosts Regional Development Forum, Regional Workshop on Emerging Technologies on 12-15 February

ALGIERS-Algeria will host as from Monday the Regional Development Forum for the Arab States (RDF-ARB) and a Regional Workshop on Emerging Technologies, announced Sunday the Ministry of Post,
Telecommunications, Technologies and Digital Technology in a communiqué.
The two day-forum takes place under “the implementation of the resolutions of the Plenipotentiary Conference held in Busan (Republic of Korea) in 2014, and in accordance with the decisions of the World Conference on Telecommunications (CMDT-17), which took place in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2017,” said the source.
Held by the Arab Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the theme ““ICT-SDGs: Towards the implementation of WTDC17 outcomes,” the Regional Development Forum for the Arab States (RDF-ARB) aims to 8 is to develop a four-year implementation plan (2018-2021) for the five Arab regional initiatives adopted by WTDC-17 in the areas of Environment, Climate Change and Emergency Communications, Building Confidence and Security in the Use of Telecommunications/ICTs, Digital Financial Inclusion, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, and Big Data, and Innovation and entrepreneurship.”
The forum will be followed on 14-15 February by a Regional Workshop on Emerging Technologies, which will focus on the adoption and implementation of new technologies, like 5G and Could Computing. The event will be attended by representatives of the ITU, the Arab League, Arab administrations in charge of ICTs, academics, researchers and stakeholders in other fields.
Moreover, the forum will be an opportunity for “a high-level dialogue between the ITU Telecommunication Development Office and policy makers from ITU member States and players in the sector, with particular emphasis on regional initiatives to strengthen the ITU presence and adapt the ITU work at the regional level.”
