ALGIERS- The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini will pay Monday a visit to Algeria
as part of the holding of the 2nd Algeria-EU High Level Dialogue on Regional Security and Counterterrorism, said Sunday a communiqué of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and Mogherini will co-chair the aforementioned dialogue, launched in October 2017 in Brussels.
The two sides “will continue, on this occasion, their exchanges on terrorist threats and their connections with the cross-border organized crime and will examine ways to deepen their cooperation in this field and will also have an exchange on the latest developments of regional and international issues of common interest,” said the source.
This visit “will be an opportunity for the two sides to examine the state and prospects of their dense and global bilateral relations, governed by the association Agreement, in order to further strengthen them in the mutual interest in the face of common security and development challenges in the region,” added the source.
These relations “recorded a qualitative evolution thanks to the adoption of the common partnership priorities under the reformed European Neighborhood Policy,” said the ministry.
Federica Mogherini’s visit, which follows the visits paid recently to Algeria by the German Chancellor, Head of the Italian Council and Spanish Foreign minister as well as the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs to Paris as part of COMEFA (Algerian-French Joint Economic Committee), emphasizes “the density and extent of the Algerian-European relations at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and a joint willingness to raise them to the rank of strategic partnership,” concluded the source.
