ALGIERS- Algeria has “deeply” deplored the “serious violations” of the ceasefire Friday in El Guerguerat in the south-west of Western Sahara, calling for the “immediate cessation” of these military operations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“Algeria deeply deplores the serious violations of the ceasefire this morning in the zone of El Guerguerat in Western Sahara and calls for the immediate cessation of these military operations, whose consequences are likely to affect the stability of the entire region,” said the ministry.

“Algeria calls on the two parties, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, to show a sense of responsibility and restraint and to respect, in its entirety, the military Agreement N1, signed between them and UN,” according to the source.

In the same statement, Algeria said that it is expecting, notably from the UN Secretary General and MINURSO, the scrupulous accomplishment of their missions, with no restrictions or hindrances, and in the impartiality required by the current developments.”

It reiterated its call to the UN Secretary General to appoint, as soon as possible, a personal envoy and the effective resumption of the political talks, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, UN General Assembly and the Charter principles.
