BRUSSELS- Algeria and Belgium signed, Monday in Brussels, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of transport, with a view to strengthening the longstanding relations and developing a new cooperation platform.
The document was inked by Minister of Transport and Public Works Boudjemaa Talai and Belgian Minister of Mobility Francois Bellot.
The MoU will provide for cooperation in training trainers and operational players on new technologies in different fields of public transport, and on technical and organizational assistance in the sector of urban and rail transport in Algeria.
The agreement also aims at building a partnership between the National Rail Transport Company (SNTF) and the Belgian National Railway Company (SNCB) for the development of the rail transport in Algeria.
“Urban transport is rapidly expanding in Algeria, especially in Algiers, hence the need to modernize it, particularly the rail transport,” said Talai on the sidelines of the signing ceremony.
Talai added “we seek to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.”
For his part, the Belgian minister said that Talai’s visit to Belgium “is an opportunity to update existing agreements and sign those under discussions, and also to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of rail transport, assistance and consulting.”
In this regard, he said that the Belgium’s Transurb, which comprises all public transport companies, would assist Algeria in the modernization of the transport sector.
Algeria, Belgium ink framework agreement on rail transport
BRUSSELS- The National Rail Transport Company (SNTF) and Belgium’s National Railway Company (SNCB) signed, Monday in Brussels, a framework agreement aiming at strengthening cooperation and establishing a new cooperation platform to contribute to the respective development of each company.
The document was inked by SNTF General Manager Yacine Bendjaballah and SNCB Chairman of Board of Directors Jean-Claude Fontinoy, during the visit of Minister of Transport and Public Works Boudjemaa Talai to Belgium, at the invitation of Belgian Minister of Mobility Francois Bellot.
The framework agreement aims at “improving the efficiency of each company and its performance on the market,” said Talai on the sidelines of the signing ceremony.
In accordance with the agreement, the SNCB would provide training services according to the needs of SNTF, said Fontinoy
“The modernization of the Algerian rail network and the purchase of new high-speed trains require the training of the staff,” said Bendjaballah.
He also announced that those new trains would be commissioned by early 2018.
Algeria, Belgium ink MOA on maritime, port training
BRUSSELS (Belgium)- Algeria and Belgium signed Monday, in Brussels, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in training and port training to contribute to the development of skills in those fields.
The agreement was signed by the chief-executive officer of the port services group SERPORT, Mohamed Yassine Hafiane, and the managing director of the Belgian centre for training of executives in the port and maritime fields (APEC), Kristof Waterschoot, on the sidelines of a visit paid by Minister of Public Works and Transport, Boudjemaa Talai to Belgium.
The memorandum of agreement is meant to set up a common framework for the development of cooperation in maritime and port training between SERPORT group and APEC, Talai told APS.
According to the CEO of SERPORT, cooperation “may be extended to other activities to contribute to the development of skills in port and maritime fields.
Cooperation between SERPORT and APEC will mainly concern exchange of information, trainers, experts and experiences in training on maritime and port trades.
