PARIS – The African Week at UNESCO has been inaugurated Tuesday at the headquarters of the UN Agency in the presence of Minister of Culture, Azzeddine Mihoubi, and many personalities representing the continent.
The African week was initiated as part of the celebration of World Africa Day, May 25, which celebrates the commemoration of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event, through various activities and festivities, showcases the rich heritage and cultural diversity of Africa and advocates the rapprochement among peoples.
The event, of which Algeria is the guest of honour, features exhibitions, conferences, screenings of films and a tasting of the African gastronomy.
The visitors will also attend a presentation of the Congo Basin by painters, including Alice Durand of Rwanda, Vanessa Grace Agnagna and the stylist Motsé Akanati from Congo-Brazzaville whose creations will be presented in a fashion show.
The inauguration was marked by Malian music of the singer Baba Sako and a troupe of the Algerian Zorna music.
