African trade-unionists pay tribute to President Bouteflika’s efforts for instauration of peace in continent

ALGIERS-At the opening ceremony of the 41st session of its General Council Thursday in Algiers, the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) paid a glowing tribute to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika
for his “efforts and contribution to socioeconomic development, peacemaking, democracy and social justice in Algeria and Africa.”
In a motion of recognition read by, Abdoulaye Lelouma Diallo, OATUU’s Permanent Representative at the International Labour Orgnization (ILO) and the United Nations Office at Geneva, the African trade-unionists also paid a warm homage to President Bouteflika for “his contribution as a mujaheed, patriot and Pana-Africanist to the freedom of peoples.”
They expressed deep gratitude to President Bouteflika “for his valuable support to African workers and Pan-African authentic and independent unions.”
On this occasion, African workers renewed their “trust” and “eternal recognition” to the Head of State “for all the benefits he has brought to Africa.”
The OATUU hailed a “militant committed” to the national and Pan-African movement to free the Algerian people and African peoples from colonialism and apartheid, and defend their interests.”
The union organization also highlighted the President of the Republic’s “intense” role and efforts “to ensure peace and security in Africa by continuously working for the resolution of regional conflicts and the fight against terrorism and all forms of violence and extremism.”
African workers and trade unionists also emphasized the “valuable contribution” of the Head of State to “ensuring the development and prosperity of African peoples and workers through NEPAD and other platforms.”
In particular, they highlighted “the historic work of national reconciliation that restored peace and security in Algeria after a long tragedy.” They lauded President Bouteflika’s “various forms of support” for African workers and the Pan-African trade union movement.
The solemn opening ceremony of the 41st session of the OUSA General Council took place in the presence of Minister of Justice, Tayeb Louh, who represents President Bouteflika at this meeting, as well as several other members of the government.
Organized jointly by the UGTA and the OUSA, this session (22-29 September) is “specially devoted to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.”
Since the launch of the work on 22 September, trade unionists celebrated the “International Day of Solidarity”, and attended the speech of the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smail Chergui, on the role of trade unions in promoting peace and security.
A panel discussion on international trade unionism and the new challenges of solidarity was also on the agenda.
