ADDIS-ABABA – Algeria will present a report of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa during the 32nd
Summit of the African Union Heads of State and Government, on 10 -11 February in Addis-Ababa, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said Thursday in Ethiopia.
“The report of President Bouteflika, who has been named by his peers the AU coordinator for Algeria’s experience in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, will certainly include recommendations which will be the subject of a decision of the Summit,” Messahel told the press on the 34th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council.
Algeria will present this report as part of the mandate assigned to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, named by his peers in 2017 as the AU coordinator in the prevention and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.
The report is one of the most important ones at the 32nd Summit of the African Union Heads of the State and Government.
The important questions cover the partial renewal of the members of the AU Peace and Security Council, said Messahel, adding that “Algeria may return to the AU Council for a three-year term from 2019 to 2022.”
On the sidelines of the AU Conference of Heads of State and Government, Algeria takes part in three summits namely the summit of the High Committee of Heads of State on Libya scheduled for 9 February, the meeting at the level of Heads of State and Government on the APRM and another summit on NEPAD.
Messahel is leading the Algerian delegation to Addis Ababa at the 34th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, preparatory to the 32nd Summit of AU Heads of State and Government scheduled for 10-11 February.
