Army delegation participates in Niamey in CEMOC Chiefs of Staff Council Meeting

ALGIERS -A delegation of the general staff of the People’s National Army, led by Major General Zerrad Cherif, head of the Army Staff’s Employment-Preparation Department took part on Wednesday in Niamey (Niger)
in a meeting of the Joint Operational Army Staffs Committee (CEMOC) Members Countries’ Council, said a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry (MDN).
“At the invitation of Lieutenant General, Ahmed Mohamed, General Chief of Staff of Niger Armies, Current chairman of the Joint Operational Army Staffs Committee (CEMOC) Members Countries’ Council (CEMOC), a meeting of this Council was held on 12 September 2018, in Niger’s capital Niamey with the participation of a delegation of the general staff of the People’s National Army, led by Major General Zerrad Cherif, head of the Army Staff’s Employment-Preparation Department, representing Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, deputy minister of National Defence, chief of staff of the People’s National Army,” said the communiqué.
This meeting “has been an occasion for the Chiefs of Staff of Niger, Algeria, Mali and Mauritania to assess the security situation in the region. They also exchanged experiences and analyses since the last CEMOC meeting of 14 August 2017 in Nouakchott (Mauritania),” added the communiqué.
The meeting has been an opportunity to improve CEMOC operation. Algeria now holds the rotating presidency of CEMOC.
In his intervention, Major General Zerrad has insisted on the “attachment” of the National Army’s supreme command “to preserve this cooperation framework, the Joint Operational Army Staffs Committee, within which the Chiefs of Staff of Armies in the region freely exchange the analyses and views on security matters.”
He also stressed the “need” to combine efforts in a “frank and sincere” cooperation between the region countries, “based essentially on the exchange of information and the coordination of actions on both sides of borders, counting first and foremost on our own strengths and means.”
