Algerie Telecom, Gateway Communications sign MoU

ALGIERS- A memorandum of Understanding was signed Tuesday, in Algiers, between Algerie Telecom and a subsidiary of PCCW Global Group (Pacific Century Cyber Works), one of the main telecommunication service providers in the world,
on the execution of a new fibre optic link project, linking Algeria to new submarine routes, said a communiqué of the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications, Technologies and Digital Technology.
“As part of the strengthening of the national telecommunication networks, a memorandum of understanding was signed, in the presence of Minister of Post, Telecommunications, Technologies and Digital Technology Houda Imane Feraoun, between Algerie telecom and Gateway Communications S.A.S., subsidiary of the Group PCCW Global, one of the main telecommunication service providers in the world.”
This agreement includes “the execution of a new fibre optic link project, linking Algeria to new sub-marine routes as well as the implementation, running and management of Data-Centre,” said the source, adding that it also aims at developing new applications in information and communication technologies (ICT) services, promoting and marketing data storage services and international connectivity services in Algeria and abroad.
The memorandum of understanding will allow equipping Algeria with “adequate infrastructure to meet the current and future national needs in terms of connectivity and data storage, in order to meet the growing and increased national and continental demand in capacity and bandwidth allowing, thus, Algeria to position itself as a crossroads of ICT sector.”
