ALGIERS- Niger’s Minister of State, Minister of Interior, Public Security, Decentralization and Customary and Religious Affairs, Mohamed Bazoum hails Sunday Algeria’s experience in addressing
religious affairs and fight against radicalization, expressing his wish to draw on this experience.
In a statement to the press after his discussions with Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs Mohamed Aissa, the Nigerien minister said “Algeria has a pioneer experience in addressing worship practices and combating religious extremism.”
He added that Algeria has become a model for Niger, which is currently developing a legal framework for the organization and the management of religious rites.
In this regard, Bazoum said “Islam practiced in Niger is the same as in Algeria: this requires joint action to preserve this main factor of national identity for both countries.”
For his part, Aissa underlined Algeria’s outstanding experience of the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation, adding that Niger should draw on it.
In this respect, he expressed Algeria’s readiness to share with Niger a “moderate Islam.”
