ALGIERS- Italian President Sergio Mattarella underlined Saturday, in Algiers, that the relations with Algeria are “strong” and “strategic,” affirming that his country will work to further strengthen them.
“The Algerian-Italian relations are strong, long-standing and strategic and will work to further consolidate them,” said President Mattarella following his meeting with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a press briefing held jointly with President Tebboune, Mattarella, who is on a two-day State visit to Algeria, said that the two countries want to extend the bilateral cooperation in various other fields than the traditional ones.
“We also want to strengthen our cultural cooperation,” he said, while expressing his wish to hold, in the near future, the Algerian-Italian High Committee which will help boost bilateral cooperation.
Italian President said that the talks also focused on his country’s efforts to lead the European Union to play a key role in the South of the Mediterranean, considered as the gateway to Africa and where Algeria, he stressed, is the “focal point.”
President Mattarella said he is “extremely pleased” to visit tomorrow Sunday the city of Annaba where the garden named after Enrico Mattei is located, which reflects the importance of the relations between the two countries.
