A total of 12 partnership agreements were signed on June 2, 2013 in Algiers between Algerian and Catalan companies operating in the fields of building, construction materials, pharmaceutical industry, and engineering.
The agreements that were signed during the 2nd Algeria Catalonia business forum held with the participation of nearly 200 Algerian companies and their counterparts from this autonomous Spanish community provide for the creation of joint ventures based in different Algerian wilayas.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Cherif Rahmani, Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Investment Promotion and Santi Vila i Vicente, Catalan Minister of Land and Sustainability.
Five of all twelve agreements cover the fields of industrial engineering, construction, and architecture, three agreements deal with pharmaceutics and building materials, and, finally, there are four agreements relating to the service sector.
According to the Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Investment Promotion, the setting up of these partnerships confirms Algeria’s credibility as a business partner and comes in a moment of increased interest shown by many foreign companies aiming to build partnerships with their Algerian counterparts.
For his part, the Catalan minister emphasized the need for a sustainable partnership between Algeria and North Eastern Spain to be launched through the transfer of Catalan know-how in order to build a win-win cooperation. The Minister also underscored the importance of promoting the partnership between the two parties in the fields of public works, construction, and urban planning in which Catalonia has a high level of expertise.
