Algeria to host African Pharmaceutical Forum in May

ALGIERS- Algeria will host the 18th session of African Pharmaceutical Forum from 14 to 16 May, announced Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Interim Minister of Public Works and Transport Abdelmalek Boudiaf.
In a statement to the press following the audience granted to the head of the African Pharmacists Inter Association (IOPA), Dr Kounde Kpeto, Boudiaf said that the Forum “will be an opportunity to examine pharmaceutical cooperation between Algeria and Africa and the new technology in the field.”
The Forum will bring together about 3,000 participants from 32 countries, including pharmacists associations, specialists as well as professionals involved in the field of health and pharmaceutical industry.
Nearly 60 national and international laboratories will participate in the event, which will address themes related to governance and development of pharmaceutical production in Algeria and Africa.
“Algeria intends to create an African agency for the development of pharmaceutical industry with a view to harmonizing laws and rules,” said the minister.
“The agency aims at building strong cooperation with Africa for the development of production tools to boost the sector in the continent,” he explained.
“Algeria has built a sound pharmaceutical industry,” said Boudiaf, adding that “our country can further develop its pharmaceutical production and export.”
In this regard, the minister underlined “Algeria exports pharmaceutical products to African countries and we have all necessary resources to be at the same level as developed countries in the field.”
For his part, Kounde hailed Algeria’s commitment to build strong cooperation with Africa in the field of pharmaceutical industry, adding that by hosting the 18th session of the Forum “Algeria has showed its strong commitment to further develop cooperation with Africa in the field.”
