Algeria “strongly” condemns terrorist attacks in western Niger

ALGIERS-Algeria “strongly” condemns the terrorist attacks that targeted two localities in western Niger on Sunday, and expressed its solidarity with the government and people of Niger,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“Algeria strongly condemns the bloody terrorist attacks that targeted the localities of Tchombangou and Zaroumdareye in the western region of the Republic of Niger, causing many deaths and injuries among defenseless civilians,” the statement said.
“In this painful circumstance, Algeria offers heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reiterates full solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Niger. Algeria is convinced that this neighboring country will be able to face the great challenges imposed by this abject scourge thanks to the unity of its valiant people,” said the Ministry’s communiqué.
Moreover, “Algeria reiterates its unwavering commitment to support international and regional efforts to eradicate terrorism,” said the source.
One hundred people were killed Saturday in the attacks on these two villages in western Niger, according to the mayor of the commune to which they belong.
The two localities, which are 7 kilometers apart, are located 120 kilometers north of the capital Niamey, in the region of Tillaberi, on the border between Mali and Burkina Faso.
According to the same official, 70 people were killed in Tchombangou and 30 in Zaroumadareye. Twenty-five people were also injured during this terrorist operation that took place on the same day as the presidential results were announced.
