TEHERAN (Iran)- The speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament) Saïd Bouhadja on Tuesday in Teheran, Iran, said “Algeria remains faithful to its principles and committed, through international charters and resolutions,
to international peace and security and to peaceful settlement of conflicts.”
In an address at the 13th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), made up of the parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) member states, Bouhadja said “Algeria is faithful to its principles, committed, through international charters and resolutions to international peace and security, to peaceful settlement of conflicts and to non-interference in internal affairs of countries.”
“The Muslim world is facing major challenges, including terrorism and cross-border crime,” the speaker of the lower house said, calling for combining efforts to face such scourges, eliminate their root-causes and stop their propagation.”
Terrorism and violent extremism are a “fast-growing phenomenon, considering their resources, supporters and breeding ground for their propagation in countries weakened by division and conflicts, hence the importance for more vigilance and the need to boost strategic and security measures,” Bouhedja said.
The speaker also stressed the need for more efforts to achieve social cohesion, boost internal immunity, eliminate any risk of foreign intervention and preserve national unity.”
“Algeria has been facing the barbarity of terrorism for a decade amid deafening international silence and it has managed to foil Machiavellian schemes through a national approach, based on respect of law and human rights, and through the farsightedness of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.”
President Bouteflika “has established the values of peace through a referendum on civil concord and national reconciliation,” the Algerian official said.
