ALGIERS-Secretary-General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Hassane Rabehi stressed the importance of giving partnership relations between Algeria and the European Union (EU) a strategic dimension that meets “legitimate expectations of both parties,”
the Foreign Affairs ministry announced Tuesday in a communiqué.
Rebhi stressed this position in the talks he held Monday in Algiers with Director General for EU Neighbourhood and Enlargement at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Christian Danielsson who pays a visit to Algeria on the occasion of consultations launched by EU with its partners in order to reach a joint definition of partnership priorities part of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), the source stated.
Rabehi highlighted during this meeting “the importance granted by Algeria to the development of these partnership relations with EU and the common willingness to give to these relations a strategic dimension that meets the legitimate expectations of both parties.”
He recalled the common assessment process of the Association Agreement implementation “that reflects, once again, the determination of both parties to give a genuine impetus to bilateral relations through the optimization of opportunities offered by the Association Agreement and a real and balanced preservation of both parties’ interests.”
Rabehi and Banielsson also broached the new EU neighbourhood policy as “Algeria has actively participated in its revision” and discussed “common priorities to be jointly defined part of the implementation of this policy.”
Danielsson hailed Algeria’s “useful and constructive” contribution to the revision process of the EU neighbourhood policy “as it actively participated in the definition of new rules for this policy in terms of flexibility and understanding of each partner’s specificities and priorities.”
Both officials agreed on the need to further deepen discussions on “joint definition of priorities for a mutually beneficial cooperation” likely to “give a comprehensive and strategic dimension” to Algeria-EU relations, the communiqué stated.
