PARIS (France)- The International Day of Living Together in Peace, initiated by Algeria, has been celebrated Thursday, for the second time in a row, at the UNESCO with the participation of the
representatives of governments and civil society.
The celebration of the day has been organized in collaboration with Algeria’s permanent delegation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Observatory of Mayors on Living Together.
The Algerian delegation has been chaired on this Day, celebrated under the slogan “Living Better Together in the City,” by the secretary general of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rachid Beladehane, in the presence of Algeria’s ambassador in France, Abdelkader Mesdoua, and the permanent delegate ambassador to UNESCO, Said Khelifi.
In an opening address, Beladehane said “considering its history, values and sacrifices, the Algerian people strongly believe that living together in peace is the appropriate answer to intolerance, hate, discrimination and rejection of the other, which have sadly increased in the last years across the world.”
The International Day of Living Together in Peace was established by the United Nations in 2017.
The resolution relating to the Day was the outcome of an Algerian initiative and was adopted, by consensus, by 193 UN member countries.
