Premier inaugurates 23rd International Book Fair of Algiers

ALGIERS – Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on Monday has inaugurated the 23rd edition of the International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA) at Exhibition Centre of Algiers. The Fair will last until 10 November.
Accompanied by members of the government, Ouyahia has visited certain pavilions of the Fair which see the participation of nearly 1,015 publishing houses, including 276 Algerian ones. 300,000 books covering various fields are exhibited in the Fair.
China, which is the guest of honour at SILA 2018 is exhibiting more than 10,000 books, mostly translated into Arabic and French and dealing with the Chinese traditional culture, the learning of the Chinese language in addition to sciences and technologies.
More than 40 publishing houses and six writers including 2012 Nobel Literature Prize winner “Mo Yan” will host meetings with the public at China’s pavilion which will feature some 2,500 books in the Chinese official language, Mandarin.
Over 90 guests, from writers, novelists and historians (65 of them are Algerians) are expected at this Fair which looks to attract bigger number visitors.
The 2018 edition of the Book Fair is dedicated to the memory of the Algerian writers who passed away in the last months, like novelist Noureddine Saâdi, critic Cheribet Ahmed Cheribet, poet Athmane Loucif, mujahedeen and writers Mustapha Tounsi and Mohamed Sahnoun, and novelist Hafnaoui Zaghez.
