African Youth Games: President of the Republic granted Order of Merit of African Olympic Sports

ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been granted Wednesday in Algiers the Order of the Merit of the African Olympic Sports, “for his role in the African Union building process.”
Given by the Association of the National Olympic Committees in Africa (ACNOA), the Order of the Merit was received by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, on behalf of the president, during the opening ceremony of the 3rd African Youth Games of Algiers (18-28 July).
Some 3300 athletes from 54 nations, engaged in 30 disciplines will participate in the Games.
The opening ceremony has been attended by the members of the government, African key figures and representatives of the International sports bodies.
“We are pleased with the organization of the 3rd edition of the African Youth Games, which reflects the efforts of your country in gathering all the human and material resources for the success of this African event. Thank you for the President Bouteflika, a historical leader in the service of peoples and sports in Africa,” said Mamadou Diagna N’Diiaye, representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president.
“On behalf of ANOCA and the Executive Council meeting on July 16, 2018, we have the honour of bestowing upon President Bouteflika, the Order of the Merit of the African Olympic Sports, in recognition of his historical role as a leader in the service of the African peoples and his commitment to the African movements and national sport committees of Africa,” he said.
To ensure the smooth running of the AYG-2018, Algeria spared no effort. The best conditions of reception, of training, accommodation and competition were provided to the participating teams and sportsmen.
