ALGIERS- About 140 players from 25 countries, including 8 Algerians, will partake in the Algiers event of the Women’s Foil World Championships (senior) scheduled from Friday to Sunday, at the Harsha-Hacene sports hall said Wednesday,
the Algerian Fencing Federation (FAE).
It is the fifth consecutive time that Algeria hosts a stage of this global competition.
“Organizing such an event for the 5th consecutive time confirms the smooth running of the previous editions, of which we were the host country. It should be noted that it is very difficult to secure the organization of an event of the World Championships because it’s very technical and it requires a lot technological resources. Infrastructures must also be in good condition,” said the president of the FAE, Raouf Bernaoui, in a press conference held in Algiers.
According to Bernaoui, this event, the only one on the African continent for women, will allow the Algerian players to play against high-level opponents.
The individual competition will be played Friday and Saturday, whereas the team competition will only be played on Sunday.
Algeria will be represented with eight players namely Elhaouari Narimene, Ghazi Lila, Guemmar Chaïma Nihal, Khelfaoui Anissa, Khelfaoui Louiza, Mebarki Meriem, Tantast Yassmine and Zeboudj Sonia.
