PM opens International Book Fair of Algiers

ALGIERS- Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has inaugurated, Wednesday afternoon, the 22nd International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA 2017) at the Exhibition Centre in Algiers.
The Premier, who was accompanied by members of the Government, including Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Noureddine Bedoui, Minister of Justice Tayeb Louh, Minister of National Education Nouria Benghabrit, Minister of Communication Djamel Kaouane and Minister of Culture Azzeddine Mihoubi as well as South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Makhotso Sotyu, visited different stands of the book fair.
Makhotso Sotyu, who is on a visit to Algeria since Tuesday, is representing South Africa, the guest of honour of this year’s edition.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic Mohamed-Ali Boughazi and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria.
Nearly one thousand exhibitors, including 658 foreign publishers from about fifty countries, are participating in SILA 2017.
An international symposium on the works of the Algerian writer and anthropologist, Mouloud Mammeri, would be held on the sidelines of this major cultural event, to mark his centenary anniversary.
Meetings, roundtables and conference on literature, reading and history are also part of the programme of international book fair, which will run until 5 November.
