ALGIERS- The Dutch Special Envoy for antiterrorism hailed Wednesday,” Algeria’s role in the fight against terrorism,” highlighting the efforts made by Algeria to fight this scourge both at the local and regional level and internationally.
In an address given at the opening of the first regional meeting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) on the links between transnational organized crime and terrorism in Algeria, chaired jointly between Algeria and the Netherlands, the representative of the Netherlands said that this meeting “aims at raising awareness and promoting practices relating to this important subject (link between transnational organized crime and terrorism) through the exchange of skills and experiences.”
The personal envoy of the Netherlands hailed “Algeria’s role in the fight against terrorism,” highlighting “the efforts its makes to eliminate this scourge through regional and international coordination.”
This meeting resulting from the initiative made by the GCTF last September “will review the relation between organized crime and terrorism particularly in West Africa in order to eradicate it,” he said, adding that the UN resolution of 2014 calls for States to fight against these crimes including arm trafficking by terrorist organizations in order to expand their area of activity in the world.
This meeting takes place following a similar meeting co-chaired by Algeria and Canada on 23 and 24 October. It is the first meeting of the working group of the Global Counterterrorism Forum on West Africa.
